About Linglo

What is Linglo?

Linglo is a place to meet people from other countries by talking — in your language and theirs. You practice a language because you have to use it to talk to someone. Making a friend is not a side effect. It's the point.

Our story

People don't wake up wanting to learn a language. They wake up wanting something a language can get them — a friend, a trip, a job, a place they can finally understand.

Almost everyone who opens a language app actually wants one of these:

  • Make friends
  • Travel
  • Understand cultures
  • Live abroad
  • Work internationally

Grammar charts don't get you any of those on their own. A real person on the other end of a chat does. So Linglo treats the language as the way in, not the whole goal.

Language starts the conversation. People make it worth coming back.

What we believe

Mission

Connect people across cultures through meaningful conversations.

Not gamified streaks. Not a curriculum. A conversation you'd actually want to keep having tomorrow.

Vision

Build the world's best platform for cross-cultural communication.

Not the biggest.The most meaningful.

People stay because of people, not because of streaks or leaderboards. We'd rather be honest about being small than pretend we're bigger than we are.

What you can actually do

Here's what's waiting the first time you open Linglo.

  • Talk, by text or by voice

Message someone in Seoul at midnight about what they had for dinner. Ten messages later you've picked up three new words without trying to. Prefer talking out loud? Switch to voice whenever you're ready — no pressure to perform, no teacher listening for mistakes.

  • Tap to translate, instantly

Don't know a word? Tap it. No opening a separate dictionary app, no losing the thread of the conversation. It only shows up when you actually need it — if you're both already speaking the same language, it stays out of the way completely.

  • Topic Battle — a game, not a drill

Two people get the same topic and a timer. You both write your best answer, and the community votes on who nailed it. It's genuinely a game — it just happens to be one where the score is how well you wrote in a language that isn't your first.

  • The Community Wall

A feed of real people and real posts, not ads. Scroll it the way you'd scroll anything else — except every post is a door into an actual conversation with someone new, not another video to swipe past.

  • Meet people from everywhere

Someone's always awake somewhere. Match with a partner in another country and the timezone gap becomes part of the fun — you're texting them at breakfast while it's their dinner. The world gets smaller one conversation at a time.

What Linglo is — and isn't

Being clear about what we're not is part of being honest about what we are.

  • Cultural discoveryThe context behind the words — how people actually live and talk.
  • Real conversationsVoice and text with actual people, not scripted exercises.
  • Global communityA place with regulars, not just a queue of strangers.

Linglo isn't

  • A dating appMatching is about language goals, not romance.
  • A language courseNo fixed syllabus, no exam prep, no gamified streak to keep.
  • An AI tutorYou're talking to real people, not a chatbot standing in for one.
  • A generic social networkEvery part of it exists to help you have one more real conversation.
